Social Login: Authenticate on Current Window

Overview

The Ultimate Member Social Login extension now includes an option to authenticate users on the current window. This is particularly useful for resolving compatibility issues with certain browsers, such as Firefox, that may have trouble with child windows.

Steps to Enable the New Option

  1. Download and Install the Latest Version
    • Upload, install and activate the latest version of UM Social Login on your WordPress site. You can do this by navigating to WP Admin > Plugins > Add New > Upload Plugin.
  2. Activate the New Option
    • Go to your WordPress Admin dashboard.
    • Navigate to Ultimate Member > Settings > Extensions > Social Login.
    • Locate the option labelled "Authenticate on the current window."
    • Check the box to enable this option.
    • Click the "Save Changes" button to apply the new settings.

Testing the New Option

  1. Clear Browser and Site Cache
    • Ensure you clear your browser cache to remove any stored data that might interfere with the new settings.
    • Clear your site cache as well to make sure all the new changes are applied correctly.
  2. Test Social Login on Multiple Browsers
    • Perform tests using various browsers (Firefox, Chrome, Safari) to ensure that the authentication process works seamlessly across all of them.
    • Pay particular attention to Firefox to confirm that the issue with the child window is resolved.

Troubleshooting

  • If the authentication still redirects to a blank page or loops back, ensure that no other plugins conflict with the Social Login extension.
  • Temporarily disable other plugins and test again to rule out conflicts.
  • Ensure that your site's cache and cookies are fully cleared.

Conclusion

This new feature aims to improve the user experience by resolving compatibility issues with certain browsers. By enabling authentication on the current window, users can have a more seamless registration and login process using social accounts.
